spaghetti noodles have become a short commodity. Never in my life did I think spaghetti would be something that I saw in short supply.

I'm trying to stay a step ahead of the crowd.

I have almost 60 pounds of dry pasta in my stash. Now it's time to stock up meats in the freezer and peanutbutter (& crackers & spaghetti sauce).

One problem I've had with starting seedlings myself is weeds growing from the dirt, so I don't know what is a weed or what is the tomato plant (until it gets larger).

I eliminated this problem by using store bought potting soil so there are no weed seeds in the dirt.

Glad you are having no shortages other than water. However, I am very curious why water is disappearing - I'm reading of numerous cases of this on another website, as well. Don't know if it would be prepping people, or who might be purchasing it all, or if it is being purchased by an agency before it has time to reach store shelves. Wish we knew!

Curious that pasta is disappearing - more and more I think the shortages we learn of are preppers working hard. Now water - sure seems like preppers. However, the bottles of water are not the way to be ready for that section of preparation - need water in quantity - buckets at least, if not barrels.

Remember that power may go out and stay out, MC, so bear that in mind as you stock your freezer.

I've been adding meat recently from sales. Yesterday I made "hamburger gravel" so that it does not need even refrigeration, and reconstitutes within ten minutes in hot water. Easy enough to make, as well.

After gardening for a little while, you will learn to differentiate weeds from the germination of vegetables you have planted. Meanwhile what you are doing is a good idea, and adding nutrients to your soil, as well.

I have to plant in buckets, and often the soils are not in the stores as early as I want to plant, or I get there right after people have purchased all of just what I would like to have purchased. Last week I purchased two bags of two cubic feet each good soil for veggies, so now I am ready for spring, and at this year's prices, which I'd not thought of until just now.

Also this is a good time to see what heirloom seeds are left in the stores, and maybe even on sale. I purchased another ten packages for next spring of things I'd not been able to find earlier this year.

Just that alot of news would be coming out next week...political news that we've been waiting 2 years for...an avalanche of news. And it was only the beginning.

Not curious at all. Our system isn't ready for people prepping all at once. And that's what's happening.

Classic prep items go first...pasta and water...next will be rice, beans, and canned goods (meats, soups, tuna, etc).

Also I would expect to start seeing TP and paper towel shortages soon...not because there is any shortage, but because people are stocking up.

I'm good with most of those items so I'm trying to stay ahead by focusing on the next items (frozen meat, spaghetti sauce, peanutbutter, etc)

Not bad!

I get cans of chili (no beans)...which is basically a can of hamburger with some chili sauce. And ofcourse...bacon flavored spam :)

I also picked up a block of velveta last week.

I know about the losing electric thing...I'm taking a chance with frozen meats...but I am stocked up on most other things so...I'll risk it.

Where I am, Michigan, I'm seeing corn fields that are doing fine, I'm seeing twice that number that aren't doing well at at all. Soybeans, it's a one to one ratio right now. Wheat, I saw a great field not long ago and someone had run an ATV or Gator across the field, crushing all kinds of grain and leaving telltale tracks. Weather is one thing, stupid people are another.

You are so right! And do you know, if someone took the opportunity and planted there, they would be fined, their garden torn up, and if they protested, could even face jail time for using "public property". If it's public property, does that not mean it belongs to us? Apparently not.

Yes, these crop losses and failures are entirely real and those suggesting reports are false are mentally ill with an extreme case of "normalcy bias" and will be hungry before long. What a shame!

Cannot believe I actually purchased two blocks of Velveeta myself! That mess is not even related to real cheese, but as much as I love cheese, it's gonna taste like heaven when I've been without the real thing for a while! Just couldn't believe I bought that stuff! LOL However, I know the time will come when I will wish I'd bought six or more, I'll be so delighted with something even resembling cheese!

I buy bulk grain for my horses, when I went to pick up the grain I asked the feed store about prices going up. They told me that corn went up from 4 to 6 dollars a bushel. 2 dollars doesn't sound like a lot, but % wise that is pretty significant. She said it was from the issues the Midwest had with flooding. Just FYI, this isn't the type of corn people eat, but it will cause meat prices to increase. It may also cause gas prices to increase too because of the ethanol.

Well, I see your point...but there's another side to that story.

Depending on what you plant...you might attract deer...and I don't want to hit a deer (lots of truck damage).

So even though I plant heirloom corn...I would have top say NO corn growing in the off-ramp-gardens.

So I choose to throw tomatillos out the window as I drive by & they will grow like weeds :D

Lord, please don't let our peanut butter supply dwindle until this group of friends is well-stocked. Please? We are peanut butter nuts and we have our priorities!!

Some of it is also used in everything we buy that uses corn oil and corn sugar and corn everything, plus ethanol, plus stock food.

We are not going to see much of anything in the way of corn and corn products, and this will be a very large bite out of our normal purchases.

LOL You are always very smart and clever and forward-thinking and the corn issue is a good example! Tomatillos - no deer, no accidents or wounded or killed people or deer - good thinking.

I suppose pull over or walk there with a paper shopping bag & start plucking as fast as I can.

Meats are on sale now because of farmers and ranchers having to reduce their herds almost completely as feeding them this winter will be far, far too expensive.

Therefore, this is the time to buy meat. I mean, right now! Before fall! Please go shopping, stock up, buy all the bargains. I found more today - and now my freezer is crammed full.

Cook what makes sense to cook now - make hamburger gravel - a pound of good ground beef becomes half a baggie full - much easier to keep, and it's ready when you need it.

Just please get to shopping so you have all that you need, at a great price, already under your roof. As you shop, let us know what you are finding, where, and how the prices are.

This is true and excellent advice. Also if you know how to do home canning....dehydrate and vac seal and can some of this meat in case the power goes out in that freezer.
