The price doubled over past year, i noticed at HEB in Texas normal large for +2$ , last year was 1-1.5, small ones are selling for 1$.There's a huge demand in Europe, healthy food, low production in California and I read about mexican drug cartel messing with avocado farming, maybe more profitable than cocaine.
Avocado can produce 500+ fruits/tree=1000$, and normal farm grows 300-400trees/acre . Good investment if you live in tropical zone, buy one acre and retire.

Report: Farmers Prevented from Planting Crops on More than 19 Million Acres

WASHINGTON, Aug. 12, 2019 – Agricultural producers reported they were not able to plant crops on more than 19.4 million acres in 2019, according to a new report released by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). This marks the most prevented plant acres reported since USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) began releasing the report in 2007 and 17.49 million acres more than reported at this time last year.

Of those prevented plant acres, more than 73 percent were in 12 Midwestern states, where heavy rainfall and flooding this year has prevented many producers from planting mostly corn, soybeans and wheat.

Means nothing but on todays recap, T O'Brien mentioned the USDA crop report today and per financial players interesting because the futures on corn dropped on their report.

So glad to see people engaging in this thread again. The bad is just about to hit in terms of our food shortages. Prices that had been decent to even sales-worthy until recently are now going up - and up. If you've not stocked already, oh boy - do what you can, but it will cost you more.

Keep talking, people - keep discussing and posting photos even of what you find in your stores, what you see on the news. We need to get the word out to more people, and we need to support each other. If I can tell you what is going short in my area, that might be a warning to you to stock up that item while you can in your area!

On that line, I have to say that I have been buying my favorite brand of cottage cheese for years in the same discount grocery. Never had a shortage. A couple times I didn't like the Use by date, but it's always been there. Now, for the past three weeks, the only kind they have is with pineapple. I have no grasp of the reason, but it is making havoc with my food choices! LOL

Here in Las Vegas we have 50 all you can eat buffets and no shortage in sight..

This is false....farmers can plant sorghum and hard red or white wheat even up to next month. There are only a very few acres that have not yet been planted...on low lying lands that farmers decide to plant on anyway. I'm in the middle of corn country and I'm not worried. We had 2 inches of rain in 2 days and no standing water. The ground is not saturated. There will be feed for livestock.

We have barrels of fresh corn at cheap prices. When corn is low, you can't find fresh cobs. This is a ploy to raise food / gas prices because corn is no longer accepted as a food filler by many customers. Pet food especially. The crisis is lack of demand for corn filler and derivatives in foods

There's one local store that has corn on the cob, 4 for $1 but not so long ago you could get 10 for $1. I know, there's people out there saying that there isn't a problem.

You're not wrong but I would suggest there are more factors at work. I believe there is a fundamental problem with supply this year.

I hope that you've been using sales to stock up. It's my impression that most people in the UK go out every few days for food. That's going to be a situation that goes bad very quickly if the shelves aren't filled. We still live in a time of plenty, now we need to have our larders filled against a time of want.
