"Barry" does remind me of the former ultra-liberal president.

When I see the heading of this thread, I keep thinking the storm has been named in honor of him.

Life-threatening storm #surge will be an issue with Tropical Storm #Barry. The wind field is large (70-80 mile RMW), it's moving slowly (key point), and the coastal geography favors surge development. Already seeing minor to moderate flooding in places. (plots via @noaaocean)

There was a good question asked a few pages back. Where are they planning to pump all the water?

Well shit. Good luck with that.

If the Lake and the Miss. River are both at the top of the levee system, where do all 120 pumps send the water from the city to?
 Quoting: Flame Garcia

Pumps were overwhelmed 2 days ago from thunderstorms. Might be epic tomorrow and Sunday in NOLA and upstream. Barry set to be rollin' slowly up on the river.

Yeah..old Barry keeps fighting the western track..must be afraid of running into too many Republicans if he ventures too close to Texas!
 Quoting: FeedYourHead

Hey, I can tell you right now, La. Is heavily Republican in their way of thinking. But like Texas, you have some areas that go full Dem cause of payoffs and kickbacks. Vast majority of people are diehard conservatives though.

This next 2hrs will be very telling. Either Barry keeps this burst of convection and starts getting his act together, and strengthens up til land fall. Or this round of convection can’t manage to wrap at all and fizzles, and Barry remains messy.

They pump it into Lake Pontchartrain
 Quoting: Luisport

"Belching thick black smoke from a 5,400-horsepower diesel engine, one of the 11 pumps at the world's largest drainage pumping station south of Harvey roared to life, sending a torrent of brown water cascading into the Intracoastal Waterway." Not sure how this will work during a storm surge. hf

Is this a war of God vs. the New World Order...

NWO wants order out of chaos.

But God seems to be mocking them saying...I'll show you chaos you MF'ers
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 75313550

It was ordained and unfolding. What's said is it's time to 'buckle up' as the storms revelate and escalate.

Hey Everyone! As expected Barry has is finally organizing and this is the point of the storm which is extremely dangerous with exception of a bit of shear-- the overall environment is capable of higher than normal Rapid Intensification. The only thing that may inhibit it from reaching a decent hurricane is time before landfall. But as we know there are scenarios where storms have turned from TS to Major hurricane in 24 hours or less. Just look at Patricia...
