Thanks Luisport - if that model holds up it would place a strong hurricane coming ashore at Galveston TX and moving up to Houston - if this storm turns into a rainmaker like TS Allison (1994 or 95) then Houston will probably experience extreme flooding again - stay alert and safe people

Our local meteorologist said a weaker storm would turn north sooner in Louisiana and a stronger storm would go more west. Louisiana to the upper Texas coast needs to watch this.

While #92L became more organized overnight it's important to remember that tropical cyclogenesis takes time. A buoy near the most intense convection is reporting MSLP of ~1012mb. This is close to environmental MSLP, meaning #92L is quite a ways from becoming Tropical Storm #Barry

Yeah how weird is it that it's forming from north to south, from land to water, so weird. I can't think of a time when that ever happened.

Tropical Weather Outlook
NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL
800 AM EDT Wed Jul 10 2019

For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:

A broad low pressure area located over the northeastern Gulf of
Mexico about 100 miles south-southwest of Apalachicola, Florida,
is producing widespread cloudiness and disorganized showers and
thunderstorms. Environmental conditions are conducive for
development of this system, and a tropical depression is expected
to form late today or Thursday while the low moves slowly westward
across the northern Gulf of Mexico. An Air Force Reserve Unit
reconnaissance aircraft is scheduled to investigate the disturbance
this afternoon. This system could produce storm surge and tropical-
storm- or hurricane-force winds across portions of the Louisiana,
Mississippi, and Upper Texas coasts later this week, and interests
there should closely monitor its progress. In addition, this
disturbance has the potential to produce very heavy rainfall from
the Upper Texas Coast to the Florida Panhandle. For more
information, please see products issued by your local weather
forecast office and the NOAA Weather Prediction Center.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...high...90 percent.
* Formation chance through 5 days...high...90 percent.

Our chief meteorologist here in southeast tx said this morning that the surface low is forming further south. Also with the ridge to the northwest not really weakening, a more Westerly track is very possible. Euro says TX/LA border.

#92L is now fully over water, and remains broad and elongated. The surface "center" remains offset to the north of the mid-level center.

Watching convective evolution today to see how far south the surface center will get pulled as it consolidates. Next 24 hours very telling.

Just heard that the forecast for the MS river in NOLA is 1 foot below the levee height. Highest level in the past 70 years, as per NBC/MSNBC.

And a lot of rain to fall!!!

Just look with hurricane Michael last year. It went from what category 1 to category 5 in space of 48 hours? No model predicted it I think.

Even a 6 Foot Storm surge will send the water right over the Levees in Nola. That doesn’t include the amount of rain expected to fall. Water is at 16 Feet currently due to the abnormally high river water, and flood stage is 20 feet.

rotation showing up on radar, no ground reports. Local meteorologist (ch4) thinks possibly a waterspout coming ashore from Lake Pontchartain. All weather moving SW. Much lightning here in Metairie, LA (western suburb of New Orleans). Will probably lose power here at work soon
