Quoting: Bananafighter Delta's Flight 1425 – a 32-year-old MD-88 – left Hartsfield-Jackson International Baltimore-Washington International around 12:48 Monday. About an hour into the flight, passengers said they heard a loud boom followed by smoke billowing into the cabin. [link to www.foxnews.com (secure)] And this is why I refuse to fly. Security garbage aside, these plans are old, not very well maintained and literally falling apart. Poor maintenance, poorly trained, and lack of care as well. No pride for excellence and concern for others...we see it everywhere....licking icecream tops, adults fighting at disney world, not standing for the flag....it goes on. We have become a tale of two cities, and a house divided shall fall. MAGA is sadly a pipe dream. |

All while ignoring the crumbling infrastructure and public transportation. The federal governement is then forced to provide more funds to these states while ignoring the need for major oversight within certain industries. So instead of money going to more inspectors for these aircraft it goes to cities that need to fund illegals welfare and in the end the American Citizens will suffer. |

Since fuel combustion inside the turbine is normal, I don't think the red-hot we saw is necessarily abnormal. The cap was still sitting inside there and, if we're lucky, it remained there through landing. Those planes can fly on one engine, and that engine was still working so they had two. |

The McDonnell Douglas MD-88, the final variant of the MD-80 twin-engine single-aisle jet, is the oldest plane in service with any major U.S. airline. Introduced in 1988, pilots call the jet "Mad Dog." It has "eyebrow windows" that were common when pilots navigated by the stars—but now they tend to let light glares hit pilots right in the eyes.
