Sky Sources say the Department for Transport has issued new guidance to all British-flagged ships to go to a heightened state of security in the Strait of Hormuz after the Ministry of Defence said three Iranian vessels "attempted to impede" the passage of a commercial vessel

Thread Start: With Iran recently attempting to divert & disrupt the crude oil Tanker British Heritage, I want to look at the range that the IRGC boats could disrupt shipping

Intel Air & Sea

@air_intel

I will be basing them as coming from Abu Musa as the boats likely came from there in the recent attempt. These satellite photos from

@AuroraIntel

show an IRGC Gashti patrol boats on the 26th May & on the 6th July in Abu Musa.

Gashti patrol boats of a range of 700nmi. Putting this onto a map from Abu Musa we can see how far they could realistically go out & return. This puts ships at risk leaving Bahrain, Qatar, UAE & major ports in Saudi Arabia. Just about all the Persian Gulf is within their range.

Ships in the gulf of Oman, where the Royal Navy escort left the British Heritage would still be at risk from IRGC boats. With the track of British Heritage it can be seen as being in range of these boats for most of its journey.

At the time of writing this the tanker is still within the range of boats. Although it likely won't be targeted this far out. End of thread

Only if they try to seize or attack the Hakusan or another vessel.
