On a previous board I was on many years ago, a specialized board that dealt with academic matters, we had a couple of people make those threats to others ... and then VOILA they tracked down who the people were who they were threatening, somehow got their addresses, and showed up at peoples houses ready to rumble ... WITH GUNS!! Both time the police were called when the recipient of the "visit" realized who it was standing outside their door pounding on it trying to get the person to open it, but OMG ... scary times. (restraining orders issued both times, but what a PITA to have to go through that effort and expense - and of course people violate restraining orders all the time) There definitely ARE some unhinged VIOLENT people out there, and you DO have to take threats seriously, even when they are made over the internet. I haven't read your thread but wish you the best as you retreat away from posting. |

In my case, my ISP is many many miles from my home - surprisingly so. I’ve route-traced it and have seen all the hops/jumps.
