Probably spoofing their location to see what sort of reaction they get (radars, etc) from inside the country. No SkyKing heard on HFGCS to indicate such a mission and that would be the norm.

And to the guy who replied above the U-2 has been in active service since it was introduced. You need ruski/USA/UK level off detection/AA to get them down.

It's a game of escalation, which I doubt is backed by the iranian leadership. Pretty sure there is a split in the iranian revolutionary guard that is causing all of the recent shite. All involved in know Iran know that a war will cost them their lives.
