Ego..
Do your work in silence
I will praise you not

Do your work in silence, so as not to embarrass those who do nothing at all. Of course you won't praise me, because praise is reserved for those who already have, not for the have not's encouraged to act beyond their means and punished if they refuse.

+5.

I'll give a few examples I have personally witnessed as we are always supposed to be kind to others.

Someone paying over $10,000 USD for another to 'start their life over'.

Someone raising numinous foster children.

Someone giving over $3,000 to help someone with a sudden expense.

A living organ donor sharing a kidney with someone else.

A car dealer giving a new vehicle to someone unable to work from injury and needing transportation for medical treatment and to take their children to various activities.

Miracles happen every day--we each just need to make them happen for others!
 Quoting: Louis in Richmond

The others I see are those who use intimidation, those who privately object but say nothing, those who don't object at all and consider it fun, those who profit off of it, those who use two sets of books for their morality, and those who make no difference one way or the other. This is about power, and I wish there was some consistency and honesty in that regard, but it's not going to happen here. I think I'm going to go back to sleep, although even that arena isn't sacrosanct to you, as much as you talk of 'the sacred.'
 Quoting: SureThingBuddy

I am a kind person, but will empty a weapon into an intruder in my home with blessings from my country police.

I will help an elderly neighbor who was injured in World War II at any hour of the day or night, yet will call ICE and law enforcement on an illegal alien in my county.

I never shared anything sacred in this or other posts as it is most often pearls before swine.

I may not understand the point you are stating, however.

I do however know I can help an elderly veteran one day and end a trespasser another and sleep just as well each night.
Until your military service has required you neutralize enemy combatants and invaders in the defense of your country,
don't presume to tell us that have defended you that you don't support every shot we fired to eliminate that enemy.

Re: What is the biggest single act of kindness you have experienced?
As a youngster, my suitcase fell out of a rental car trunk onto the highway in Florida. Someone stopped, got it, actually took it to somewhere on Disney property, turned it in, and Disney shipped it to my parents' house and it arrived a few weeks later. That took effort from multiple people. And nothing was taken from my bag, either (not that there was anything to take).

Another time, I locked keys in a rental truck, and a random woman gave me a ride. And a guy in an office let me use his cellphone to call to get the keys out of the truck.

A random guy passing by helped me lug a car battery once, when I had an injured foot and was limping.

Yet another time, my phone slipped and fell on a plane, and I heard it slide somewhere. Someone sitting by me noticed and got people in the rows around me to hunt around and find it.

I always try to help people when I'm in a position to help them. I've returned wallets, helped people find things, helped people on airplanes, etc. I tried returning a Kindle I found once, I assume/hope the person got it back. Amazon was not very helpful about it. The person who lost it was kind of weird about it, too (they left it in an airport bathroom).

An that is why I bought 300 shares of Disney stock. Nice.

This is about insiders and outsiders, which is intelligible at least. But add in 'ego,' which is about dissolving the identity which makes for the difference between insider and outsider, and what then is kindness? Your idea of it would call it tolerance--like the quote from Aristotle about tolerance being the last virtue of a dying people--it doesn't cohere. The question is why be kind to those who treat you like an intruder and betray those who never have? Can you answer that honestly? Outside of 'because family.'

Was dating a woman who turned out to be quite unstable, exhibited characteristics of borderline personality disorder and narcissism. Pretty certain she was lying and cheating, too.

She broke up with me.

That relies on techniques of espionage, not on any spiritual gifts. I've just gotten tired of it. There haven't been enough good experiences in my life to continue to justify helping those who knowingly hurt me. If that means you call me evil because you can't cheat me any longer, then it isn't really a surprise, considering who you have shown yourselves to be.

I’m having a side convo at Macys w a friend about my bday and overpriced shoes...I probably dont look like I belong there....some random girl started chatting me up and hands me some coupon and walked off with a “happy birthday” Turned out it was store credit Or a mega coupon....anyway, Free Boots :)

Years ago i was struggling and commented somewhere on glp that i could barely afford $10 shoes and was walking around in tattered ones. A LOT of posters offered to get me something. I didn’t take the offer but there’s a lot of good souls on here.

Re: What is the biggest single act of kindness you have experienced?
Too many, but one I’ll never forget is when I was 17. I was broke, felt rejected due to my parents divorce and immediate remarriages. I ran out of gas on the other side of town. I didn’t have 50 cents. This was before cell phones, so I summoned my courage to knock on a door and ask to use the phone. An elderly couple came to the door, invited me in, gave me something to drink. No one that I tried to call was home, so I thanked them, told them I would walk to my grandparents house a couple of miles away and wait until someone got home. They said there was no way that I was do8ng that! The old man got a gas can, we all drove to the gas station, filled it up, went back to my car and I thanked them and went on my way. I’ll never forget that their response was that they would want someone to do the same for their granddaughter and they were happy to do it.

I met a woman that loves me, we are like bestfriends everday. Its like we can read each others mind. She rubs my back every night. We are like snakes when we sleep wrapped around each other. Legs locked we only need one pillow.

I dream of events that I can control. Everyday is like a new day.

Whoa. The question is about what people have seen or been on the receiving end of, it's not a thread about self-congratulation.

Nothing that I can honestly say...but I go out of my way to help random people or people that I know are in need. Not for them mind you, but for myself, the feeling I get from helping people can be very addicting. Still waiting for it to catch up with me, but any time I’ve ever been down or in need, I’ve just had to work my way through it... builds my character I guess.
