Years ago (mid 1990's ?) I read an interesting article where they asked the question that insurance companies dread ...

"For every dollar that you get in insurance premiums, how much do you pay out in claims?

Their research showed the very best of the big insurance companies paid out about 50 cents in claims for every dollar taken in as premiums.

The worst of the big insurance companies paid out 25 cents for every dollar.

There should be a law forcing insurance companies to publish, once a year, their "claims paid"/"premiums received" ratio for the previous year.

But of course it would be impossible to get such a law passed ... the insurance companies will donate tons of money to the politicians to stop it. We are screwed.
