I have always thought and always said that it wasn't the recession we had 10~ years ago that was the bad thing, the bad thing was how they got us out of recession. Rich people were losing their asses and the gap between the rich and the poor was shrinking. The day of reckoning was finally upon us and dozens if not hundreds of major companies were about to fail - and deservedly so. Then came the bailouts, so the wealthy who were on the cusp of losing actually won yet again and won more than ever. The economy has been fucked ever since.
