I wonder if the insanity defense would apply in this case, a lot of chess masters are brilliant and he might of just lost his sanity. Sad day for him though, and a sad day for chess.

I think a lot of them are kind of on the nutty end of the spectrum. When I was looking at actually 'going for the gold' in chess...I looked at those other men around me. Palid, intense, no wedding bands, carrying chess theory books around everywhere. I stepped out of the game. Though I do watch a lot of chess, I rarely play anyone aside from son.

How does one cheat at chess using a cell phone?

You would be using a chess engine. Stockfish or Alphazero etc.. To look for moves that no human would make, but will win you the game. I like watching some AI vs AI games because they are completely random seeming.
