How many shuttle disasters can you remember ? | |
AkashicRecord® User ID: 77823009 United States 07/16/2019 09:44 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | There were 3 if you count the time the astronauts were in a simulator and it caught fire and they were burned to death. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 2712120 I think it was one of the first Appollo mission (I just went to Wikipedia, it was the first). It was a rehearsal, on the ground, and the astronauts were all killed....too much oxygen in the cabin, or something.... I can't remember, I was a kid, but I remember thinking then that this was all very dangerous work. [link to en.wikipedia.org (secure)] That's the one. Sorry, that message is no longer in the database. |

So yes, there were always two, I remember Columbia's destruction quite vividly. |

Challenger in 1986 on take off in Florida and Columbia in 2003 on reentry over Texas. Columbia was the first space shuttle to launch. 3… the one long ago when we almost lost a returning mission to the moon and Christ Jesus himself rescued that and towed it back himself. Edit.. I think that was Apollo 13. |

See above. from wiki The mission aimed to send commander Jim Lovell and lunar module pilot Fred Haise to the lunar surface, while command module pilot Jack Swigert remained in orbit. But on April 13, the mission suffered a crippling explosion that would nearly doom the spaceflight and its crew |

The teacher made a big deal about it. I remember the second one vividly. I was in the supermarket buying a 30 pack of bud and saw it all over the tabloid mags at the checkout. I remember hearing there were body parts in the road that fell from the shuttle, almost think I remember seeing pictures of that, too. |

The footage from the one blown up in orbit was pretty crazy though !! |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 77720410 United States 07/16/2019 06:25 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Well I remember 3 shuttle disasters 1.The first and by far the worst one ever was the day they built the dam "flying Winnebago" the whole program was junk from day one! 2. the programs first kill aka Challenger, I watched it in person... 3.Columbia I have hated the program from the start, my reason is simple the money should have been spent doing something useful other than a quick ride for the air force, the cost for little return ie the dam thing never left earth orbit The total cost of the actual 30-year service life of the shuttle program through 2011, adjusted for inflation, was $196 billion. The exact breakdown into non-recurring and recurring costs is not available, but, according to NASA, the average cost to launch a Space Shuttle as of 2011 was about $450 million per mission. the only thing it did of worth in my book was Hubble... |

It was the same place I was when that US Air Force F-15 shot down that "Russian" satellite just weeks beforehand. I saw that baby get hit and go streaking across the sky for what seemed like eternity. I was in Bellevue, Washington when the second one got shot down right before some other folly.
