Let me ask you a question and put some serious thought into it. Why do you think to these people the term "colored people" is highly offensive and would only ever be uttered by a racist bigot, is very hateful and should never be used, but the term "people of color" is highly respectful and proper way to reference a person who is not white, and should be the proper respectful wordage?

I'm not being facetious. This is a serious question with a serious answer. I've known collectivists and anarchists my whole life and I actually know why this is.

I'll wait until someone takes a real stab at it. But logically it seems absurd that simply a verb and a noun changing position, separated by a preposition for proper English would make the same phrase un-offensive.
