Going on a road trip vacation!
Me and my 2 kids are hitting the road this week for a road trip! We'll be headed out from the DFW area to Arizona. Most of the time will be spent from the Sedona area (booked A Pink Jeep tour) to the north and northwest part of the state. We're also gonna hit the Hoover dam and take a quick side trip to Vegas. I can hardly wait!

Any recommendations? The last time I was in Arizona was back in 1977 when I was 9 yrs old.

The Earth changes have turned some of these areas into garden spots. Maybe you will see one.

Hoover Dam is a real trip to see and experience.

If you gamble in las Vegas, then go to one of the shops on the outside of town - you get better odds there.

Re: Going on a road trip vacation!
I was a passenger on a long road trip from CO to Louisiana.
Sat in the back drinking beer and gatorade and listening to good tunes.

The driver(my pops) says I talk more when I drink lol

Good to hear uncle David. You should come up to oak grove, it's gorgeous and makes my 30 year circle complete.

At least with Joanna.

Re: Going on a road trip vacation!
A road trip vacation that includes camping and doingoutdoor activities should coincide with Spring or Autumn weather so it's comfortable and you can have a campfire.

Otherwise the tent soaks up the sun or it's beastly hot and you can't escape the heat. It's miserable.

Define too hot. I live in the DFW area.

Central Arizona is cooler than Phoenix or Tucson by at least 10-15 degrees.

Ramah, NM has some awesome canyons. [link to www.flickr.com (secure)]

It's very close to the New Mexico pictographs. [link to www.atlasobscura.com (secure)]

Try to stay overnight at the Grand Canyon on or near the full moon night....experience of a lifetime. August 14, 15. Rooms are usually booked but we got a room there once that overlooked the canyon with huge picture windows by waiting at the check in desk at 6:00pm which is when they release rooms that are held for VIPs who show up. Don't know if they still do that....it was in the 1980's.
