How fascinating, Bodhi! I just researched on the net and here it is - I assume this is the Lizard experiment you are referring to:

Taken from the end of the article (my bolding)
LIZARDS RAPIDLY EVOLVE AFTER INTRODUCTION TO ISLAND
[link to www.nationalgeographic.com (secure)]

Pod Mrcaru, for example, had an abundance of plants for the primarily insect-eating lizards to munch on. Physically, however, the lizards were not built to digest a vegetarian diet.

Researchers found that the lizards developed cecal valves—muscles between the large and small intestine—that slowed down food digestion in fermenting chambers, which allowed their bodies to process the vegetation's cellulose into volatile fatty acids.

"They evolved an expanded gut to allow them to process these leaves," Irschick said, adding it was something that had not been documented before. "This was a brand-new structure."

Along with the ability to digest plants came the ability to bite harder, powered by a head that had grown longer and wider.

The rapid physical evolution also sparked changes in the lizard's social and behavioral structure, he said. For one, the plentiful food sources allowed for easier reproduction and a denser population.

The lizard also dropped some of its territorial defenses, the authors concluded. Such physical transformation in just 30 lizard generations takes evolution to a whole new level, Irschick said. It would be akin to humans evolving and growing a new appendix in several hundred years, he said.

"That's unparalleled. What's most important is how fast this is," he said.

The world will become peaceful, beautiful and abundant
IF WE TREAT ANIMALS AS WE TREAT OURSELVES

Why are wild animals aggressive? Do they have a reason to be so? Have they been exploited and hunted for millennia? Will this fear of violent humans have entered into the genetic mind of the earth, where it is ready waiting as "instructions" for future animal births? Can we rewrite these instructions by reversing our violent behaviour?

Do humans produce more and produce higher quality if they are happy and well? Would this not be the same for animals also? Here we are talking free range hens as opposed to battery hens, for example.

The demand for meat determines and dominates landscapes. Vast areas land (as well as huge amounts of water) are dedicated to the production of cattle. Vast areas are devoted to growing maize as pig fodder.

Except for a few, frequent meat-eating is not necessary to health. On the contrary, it requires hours of digestion, it inserts unwanted "medicines" and substances into our bodies, and it requires the death of a living being.

New technologies are being developed which can "grow" meant without involving animals. This is the future, a largely vegetarian world, and humans which treat animals with kindness.

There was an experiment or happenstance, I forget...where carnivorous lizards moved to another part of an island where they became vegetarians. They lost their aggressiveness and started to have pretty colors.
