Phil's a damn good drummer. I didn't really understand this until I found his stuff with Brand X in the 70's.

There is no best IMO, only favorites at different times. I'm enjoying flashy brightwork lately.

That dude is a beast. Never heard of him or the band, as I'm not into Death Metal. Wonder if he could kick Danny Carey's ass. Both big, strong MF'rs.

you'll never know who they are... Some of the best drummers in history weren't lucky enough to land in a band that "made it". Unfortunately as a drummer you need a band for recognition. The best jazz drummers will blow the doors off the best rock drummers all day but you'll never know their name..

The proper question for this thread is who are the Best Drummers in bands that made it..

Can't name just one. Neil Peart (Rush), Stephen Morris (Joy Division), Jimmy Chamberlain (Smashing Pumpkins), George Kollias (Nile), Keith Moon (only because he was a crazy sumbitch)...

I like the Tony Williams video. Never heard of him either. Is he mostly a jazz drummer? Plays both traditional and match grip. Good stuff!

My best friend Mike.

We played in bands together as teenagers and 20 somethings, but he was way better than all of us.

He has made a life as a self employed electrician, raised 2 kids, and is putting them through college now, but on the weekends, he doubles as a fucking world renowned drummer.

Pretty much every big touring act you've ever heard of has called him to fill in when their guy was down.

He's one of those ridiculous savants that can listen to any piece of music once and then play it better than the person who wrote it.

I really like this group. Wes still hand writes the return address if you order a CD :)

I can tell you who is not the best drummer. Neal Pert.. guy is way over rated as is Rush in general
