In the case of the beleagured 737 Max, however, the plane was so advanced that the regulator 'handed nearly complete control to Boeing,' which was able to sign off on its own safety certificates, according to the New York Times. Quoting: Weyoun The lack of regulatory oversight meant that the FAA had no clue how Boeing's automated anti-stall system, known as MCAS, worked. In fact, 'regulators had never independently assessed the risks of the dangerous software' when they issued a 2017 approval for the plane." [link to www.zerohedge.com (secure)] Hope the plane stays grounded for at least a YEAR in the US, and 2 to 3 years before the Europeans, Australians, and Chinese clear it to fly again. Since the FAA so totally fucked up ... the Europeans have every RIGHT to do a full Top To Bottom REVIEW of EVERYTHING about the plane, including it's basic engineering calculations for every spar and fuselage member in the entire plane. Personally, having already flown on the Max ... between the two crashes - I was nervous as hell, I don't think I would trust the FAA anymore wrt this airplane and will refuse to fly on it again until the Europeans re-certify it. The FAA is NOT to be trusted!! |

And whomever signed off on this at the FAA should be on the gallows right along with him. Quoting: Cat in the Tin Foil Hat I can see some sort of excuse if he had just joined the company while the MAX was being developed or something. But no, he's been with Boeing since 1985. He knew exactly where corners were being cut. The blood of 346 people are on his hands (plus the millions he put at risk) all for profit and stock prices. He needs a bullet in his head. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 77374864 United States 08/20/2019 03:59 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It is called "Regulatory Capture" It is now NORMAL for large companies to try to "capture" the government agency that is supposed to regulate them ... and turn the entire process on it's ear so that that the main objective of the "Regulatory" Agency then becomes to push forward the agenda of company or industry that has "captured" them. Look to the Drug industry Look at the Farm (chemicals) industry Look at the Oil and Gas industry Look at the Airline industry and of course Look at the Aircraft manufacturing industry Normal course of business for the US Government these days. The Corporate interests RUN the government oversight agencies in virtually every field. |
