That was an odd time.  Sure, but I think this is different. If it was a case of simple messiah complex he would be diagnosed and dropped, simple, end of story, no worries. This man has real power and they know it, that's why they watch so closely and tool with him, trying to find out how he works, trying to mess with him. Oh gosh no I am not saying your Jesus is some mental dude with a messiah complex! I was just saying the same phenomena that makes people think they are "Him" existed there, and it was a very odd time, with people would follow anyone, if you are "mysterious" enough in your vague pronouncements.
