Why didn't he use his clothes instead of risking flimsy bed sheets?

His attorneys told the prison he was not suicidal and to take him off the watch after 6 days and the prison abided? Why was his cell mate moved? Did he tell people his cell mate tried to kill him and through investigates they promised were on going, they decided his story was legit, that he was attacked?
