As the brother of a cop with dozens of acquaintances in all levels of law enforcement. With a close friend who is a city beat cop, let me assure you, my wife, who has never served a day in the military or police, is a better shot than many of the officers on a department of five hundred people!

My dear friend as well as my sister are range masters and they laugh all the time, that my wife, who is the least trained of our shooting group, is still better than fifty percent of the officers.

Sure, there are dozens who are better than her, but they are folks who shoot regularly. Some of the officers that we know only shoot to qualify and actually disdain shooting practice.

I know an African American female who fails to qualify unless she'd given extra time and ammunition. She is also one of the folks that had the academy self-defense training watered down because it is too rough.

And not to pick on blacks, I know a small town police chief who stood at a defensive tactics course and railed on training against a knife only to find himself being shocked over and over by the practice shock knives.

He could not defend even a half-hearted attack from a boy who was invited to the training cadre to demonstrate how looks could be a deceiving. This kid was a skinny Civil Air Patrol comic book geek, who just so happened to have been training MMA and Filipino escrima his who life.

Don't see a badge and assume "bad ass" or "proficient".
