Physical items that can sustain people. Cash to an extend (to avoid losing transaction fee via credit system) as you need it for transaction. There are too many sheeple so you can't use do trade, using rare material for transaction.

So equipment to grow your food for partial/ fully sustainable comsumption. A place of living that is fair weathered. Solar powered stuff. Bike. Dry foods. Gun. Basically be less dependent on the system.

The name of the game is security, since negative interest means distrust in the system.

When the banks begin to charge you to keep your money in a savings account is the time to pull it all out and perhaps purchase 50 cent coins. The value always remains the same and one can instantly use them anywhere. Whereas with gold one has to find a place that will purchase it for a FEE. With silver bars and such, same thing.

Although both the value of gold and silver is going up... in a pinch, it's not so easy to purchase groceries with that. Keep in mind if going to the store, they'll accept coins.

As for the fiat dollar bill who knows what will happen with that when the $ becomes gold-backed, which means a new paper currency.

At negative interest rate? No.

Aftermath: a new financial system after a champion emerges from a war(!?)? Very likely, if not to say guaranteed.

Change it to a global ban on pregnancy for anyone unable to support themselves and their families and I could support it

At first glance, this looks like the way to go. You borrow on something like a house that has its interest/payment locked. In theory, the banks can't call the loan or raise your payment (local government can however, raise taxes). If you rent it out, it becomes an asset. The problem then becomes keeping someone in that property during economic uncertainty.

The Federal Reserve can lower interest rates and impose helicopter money to stimulate spending but the cost of all that should be inflation. Sure, you can pay your mortgage with inflated dollars but all your other expenses are now going up (and so are your renter's).

What's worse? Letting negative interest rates slowly scrape away your cash or being over-leveraged? Bankruptcy laws still let you get out from under debt but then the IRS comes after you...

That's exactly what would happen and why the FED won't do it!

That might be so, but negative interest rates tend to occur under deflationairy conditions.

In Europe where interest rates are already negative, the ECB failed to get inflation up to 2%.

They can better give up on that and allow interest rates to go negative.

The 'big money' in that is now in bonds can never move into gold.

And if conditions are deflationary, negative interest rates aren't that bad.

You can only borrow at negative rates against good collateral.

Negative interest rates are a sign of trust.

Interest is a sign of distrust, either in the currency or the borrower.

If the US would start to have a balance budget, interest rates will crater.

Reckless borrowing would require positive interest rates.

You might notice that governments with budget surpluses in Europe can borrow at negative rates.

And also, it may soon happen with your mortgage if your mortgage is low relative to house value.

There will need to be fix for cash in case interest rates go below -1%. It is possible to make cash and digital money separate currencies and apply a negative interest rate on cash. This is explained here...

Okay, finance ain’t my bag, so here are a couple of (probably dumb) questions:

1) What does it mean for the ‘little guy’, like me? I’m right side up on my mortgage, and our house has appreciated in value.

2) Suppose I have the money to pay off my mortgage all at once. I don’t, but I’m curious. Would it be advised to keep paying my monthly note or pay it off (again *if* I could)?

3) Should I keep money in savings? I’d think not, but still want to ask.

Please explain in simple words if you don’t mind - again, I’m NOT a finance savvy guy.

The housing market is priced too high something like 3-4 x the average wage.

This is where it'll go pop with negative rates as banks wont cope with the current values in a negative interest rate environment.

They'll much rather screw over home owners.

Well the selfish US is to blame for interest rates being so rediculously low. The fed has been driving down rates to minimise the amount of interest it has to pay on its multi trillion dollar debt and for no other reason.
