...Yes i do have to wear man diapers sometimes but not all the time yet...

NOTICE The following may be disturbing for some. It contains graphic detail about incontinence.

Thank you for mentioning this. Man diapers... in other words it’s perhaps a polite way to talk about incontinence.

IMO there is no way you can appreciate how sudden incontinence wrecks your soul unless you’ve experienced it. I may know in my head that I’m protected, but I will sometimes wonder if I’m leaking or if others can smell me. And if I require help cleaning myself and/or changing my diaper I will often just stare off into space to divorce myself from this moment. I know it’s not my fault, but that is little comfort.

Just know that I feel profound shame. I need for those who help to try and not show there disdain if they decide to help me. I can feel your disdain. It’s expressed in your face and tentative hands.

This morning my hospice team visited. They told me things are now changing a bit faster than before. My nurse hugged me and told me she would be by my side. That choked me up.

I'm requesting folks to come forward for Fred and give him your prayers. He was in a lot of pain this afternoon and he had to go to the ER. I'm not at liberty to reveal much else.

His pain spiked and he had to go take care of it. I'm not used to his absence during the day any more than a few hours. I'm worried. We developed such a close bond offline and I am forever changed.

Please give him your best prayers. He is an incredible man.

Hi again. Thanks for asking for the prayer requests. That meant a lot, but you knew that. We have developed a friendship and the only incredible man is you. Perhaps one day you can share your journey in more detail here with us. What you've had to overcome speaks to that life spark that you never let burn out. This "relationship" is the best thing that's happened to me in my journey. We're just 2 guys who said the hell with it and spoke deaths name loud and clear.

I spoke with several docs and they understood that I did’t want heroic efforts or curative measures. Just symptom management. The x-rays and EKG were unremarkable. This chest pain is well painful. They gave me some of the good stuff as the nurse put it. (1ea 2mg Dilaudid) and I’m now taking 10ml of morph every hour as needed. Hospice is getting new orders over to there pharmacy for delivery.

I sure don’t want to experience this day again, but guess what? LOLL yeah you know!

Thanks again to all.

You're back! And with the good stuff! Dilauded works great, but it doesn't last very long. When I had my 2nd brain surgery, they gave me a machine that would give me morphine when I pushed a button. That worked way better. I wonder if you could ask for something like that if it gets too bad. Just a thought.

Glad you are back home and not evicted from hospice (giggle).

I hope you get some relief.

Ah, Fred....Know you and your wife are in my prayers.

Take the good stuff and try to stay ahead of the pain as long as you can...And spend your time as you want. But make sure you talk to your wife as much as possible. She sounds as awesome as you!

Even if I don't comment, I am paying attention here, and praying for you and the other gentleman who stepped in and is in hospice.

Peace and serenity!

Thank you for the confirmation. It was an honor to be with him through this process while he was in Hospice. It was through email and at times very heavy. He is a great man. I may not have said the right things, but I was there for him to unload anything. The one thing he told me was that "when you are in a foxhole, you don't care who is with you as long as they have your back".

I'm going to miss our time together. Again, thank you for the closure.

I'm going to share one last thing. I am going to keep our conversations to myself. To me, this was a sacred time in the life of an inspirational human being. We had discussed finding closure here at GLP and with each other. I had told him I didn't want any goodbyes. He honored that. Additionally, I told him if I didn't hear from him that I would continue sending pictures. His last email to me was yesterday afternoon. I woke up this morning not knowing Fred had passed. He was on my mind since yesterday. I sent an email this morning with pictures of my garden.

I think Fred did say goodbye to me as this was part of my email to him this morning..........

Thank you so much for starting this thread OP. I am currently in my 4th year of fighting Stage IV rectal cancer with tumors in the liver and possibly lungs based on my last CT scan. I am really interested in following this thread to see kinda what I can expect once I get to the hospice stage. Not quite there yet.
Thanks Again OP,

My sister died of cancer on June 16th of this year. She and I are/were both medical professionals (Med Tech/Nurse).

Sissy was resistant to Hospice in the beginning. When the doctor recommends Hospice, it's the final wake up call. Hard to swallow. I let her ponder the thought for a few weeks. She was determined to die in our home in the mountains. No facilities. Home Hospice was the only answer.

As it turned out, it was quite the blessing. No more running back and forth to the doctors office, meds paid for and delivered to our door. The nurses were splendid. Weren't pushy but available when we needed them.

When she finally passed, it was very quick and for the most part painless. The hospice people instructed me what to do for her but didn't hover. Only came when I asked them to. She wasn't fearful, quite the contrary, when she was "aware", she was in good spirits.

I wouldn't have done things a different way. That said, each person's experience is different. A lot depends on where you want to spend your last days. Home is always best IMO.

God Bless and good luck on your journey
