Don't File False DMCA Takedown Notices!
A jackass who has been filing false DMCA copyright takedown notices against multiple YouTube accounts has been caught and sued by YouTube itself.

Not only did he try to extort money for his victims in exchange for rescinding his false copyright strikes, he also used personal information received from those who filed counter-notifications to swat them. To file a counter-notification and fight the false DMCA strike you normally have to provide not only your full name but your address as well. This, of course, opens you up to swatting attempts.

I've had to file similar counter-notifications to fight a similar incident which tried to shut down my YouTube channel as well as my GitHub account where I distribute my open source astronomy programs. In my case I avoided providing my home address by using a lawyer to act as an agent for service of process. It only requires a small fee and I STRONGLY urge anyone who has to fight a similar extortion attempt to use the same process to hide your true information. That way you only have to provide the address and phone number of your lawyer's office rather than yourself.

And to whoever thinks it's a good idea to try to troll me or anyone else by filing false DMCA strikes... watch out, because you can be caught and YouTube will take your sorry ass to court.

BTW, did the guy who was filing bogus copyright claims against you ever get stopped?

Could be this guy for all I know, though they don't mention my channel in the lawsuit. All I was ever given to go on was an anonymous protonmail address and what appears to be a fake name. This guy was also using multiple fake names when filing copyright strikes. The MO is pretty similar, except I never received an extortion notice. I did counter-notify immediately though, so it might have escalated directly to swatting since my counter notices protected my channel from being shut down. I was protected by using a lawyer to hide my information.

Some "Anthem Entertainment (Film/TV)" fuckheads tried to make a claim on 2 of my videos.
I fought it and won. The videos were screen captured by me live. soon as they realized they used MY footage they sure shut the fuck up fast.

Still never found any film or tv show they owned with the footage I think they were just full of shit

Yeah, I've had to deal with claims on my videos for the Stellardrone music I use in them. The thing is, I have written permission from Stellardrone to use the music. Every single time the claim is by some shady flight by night company that claims to own the rights to Stellardrone's music, but in reality they don't. One actually refused to release their false claims even when I pointed out that my video was years older than the claimed release date of their "song" (which was actually Stellardrone's song, they gave it a false title and release date). I had to threaten to sue them by emailing them directly before they finally relented.

Thanks for the info, Astro. My daughter's channel had a few false claims, but luckily they were both reputable(ish) companies who responded quickly since the YT algorithms for detecting violations can be wrong.

I appreciate the info you provided. We'll be on the lookout.

I've read similar warnings from people just selling stuff on the internet.

Next thing they know they are being sued for mental distress because the item didn't fulfill the buyers needs.

Yeah it's all BS but once it gets to court it is official and will cost you money to adjudicate

You sir are correct.

I am currently in a legal battle that has lasted close to three years and have spent over $12,000 USD via a law firm doing the work for me.

In a different instance an FBI Agent friend did various legal filings including having Federal subpoenas served for me.

That also had the added benefit of being provided anything and everything in background I needed to win that legal battle and leave the involved hostile 'entity' destroyed.

Always use an intermediary and act as trying to kill them via legal means.
