Please enlighten me folks, how else are you going to prevent mass shootings? Trump is only targeting mentally ill people instead of the guns themselves. How is that a bad thing?

Do those words mean nothing to you? Think, use your head, and be honest with yourself. If Obama was proposing the same exact thing right now you'd be furious that Obama was spying on you. But because Trump is considering the proposal it's ok?
Even if you want broader enforcement on preventing the mentally ill from acquiring or owning firearms, it does not require illegal, unconstitutional spying on you in your own house! This is NOT the only possibility, you're trying to use this as a false dilemma which is the same thing the damn Democrats do every time they demand on banning guns. The argument is always "well either we do this or we can't do anything." Wrong.
I'll give the president credit for wanting to open up mental institutions again, I agree with that idea. There are some sick fuckers out there who need to be institutionalized. Stevie is one example, he's been incarcerated and institutionalized for threatening Obama during his administration and now threatening Trump under the new administration. That sick fucker clearly hasn't learned, hasn't reformed, and doesn't need to be out on the streets. Likewise, he's got a small cult of followers who are just as deranged and just as prone to threatening people. They need to be locked up so that they stop posing a danger to the public. None of that requires monitoring people through their devices, they've had multiple contacts with law enforcement over the years without any of that being used. Same goes for most of these shooters, usually they've already had run-ins that just weren't properly investigated or dealt with, and should have been an institution with a thorazine drip strapped to their arm years ago.
