Citizens is a government-private insurance set up after most of the companies pulled out of Florida after the year that 4 storms tracked through the state (a year before or after Katrina). Two things can wipe out insurance companies in one event - earthquakes and hurricanes. Hence why flood insurance is only available from the government. And why earthquake insurance is harder and more expensive to get. |
