That is just my feeling though...no science behind it. Most of the buildings and homes around Daytona and Space coast are 60’s to 80’s built, not up to modern code. A landfall there could be devastating. |

Unless most structures are built 50 above sea level, most will be gone. Interesting also, building codes in the highest risk zones I think have to meet 180mph gusts for a number of seconds, not sure how long, but it ain't gonna matter in 180 sustained and 200+ gusts for hours on end. Maximum elevation is around 25 meters. Most of the land however is at sea level, or a few feet above. Even on "high ground" you aren't safe. I'm sure the mega rich got out of dodge, but most people didn't even have the option. At least in Florida there is the option of driving yourself to safer ground. |
