While the American south west was once a Mexican territory, there were never more than a hand full of Mexicans living north of the border. Those people were offered American citizenship, or a ticket to Mexico. Of course they stayed and became Americans. There are no Mexicans in Mexico that have any historical claim to any land in America. Mexico has no claim to the land, and the people that were here, became Americans, and forgot about the oppressive government that had been trying to control there lives. I'm sure their families are very happy with their ancestor's decision right now.

Most people don't realize that California (and maybe the rest of the Southwest) was Mexico for only about 20 years.

They'll just walk down another 20-40 miles and go around. A wall is nothing without a series of armored gun emplacement towers and armed guards.

Finish the wall and build Interstate 2 right next to it, west to east, Very busy interstate highway should keep them busy if they hop the wall. Hit and runs will go up drastically.

You seem to be laboring under the mistaken idea that Americans want to go to that shit-hole south of the border. While some go there for nice beaches and cheap beer, they will find nice beaches and safe beer in America. Americans are welcome to pass through the border whenever they want, legally! Mexico wants the American money going over the border, and will certainly never try to close it to tourists.
