Anonymous Coward User ID: 259160 United States 07/18/2007 09:58 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | there are some liquid vegetable oil margarines that aren't as bad for you and are lower in calories.. they are nice because they are more spreadable and not so hard and come in tubs... Brummel and Brown with yogurt in it is good. I use mostly butter and avoid all trans fats when possible too, but not all non-butter spreads are bad. It is amazing though how many people bake stuff at home like cookies with shortening.. it tastes so awful compared to butter.. real cooks use butter! peace |

I eat it by the tub! And I'm still alive! Quoting: Anonymous Coward 268565if your really want trans fats take your typical bag of microwave popcorn which is about the single most concentrated source of trans fats I've seen in all my browsing.. many bags have 15-20 grams per bag. |

Google the azo coal tar dye called "butter yellow" that was put in the junk to color it for it's sale to the public. That and other azo food and clothing dyes that turn into benzene when they are excreated through the skin and are hit by UV rays are the real cause of most skin cancers in the last seventy years. |

So, if you yanks can put the margarine plastic in your food, why cant we chineese put cardboard in our dimsum?? Yet you peepul blame us chinees for giving the junk food. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 269081Moron, the chinese can pronounce the western 'r'. even the japanese can but choose not too. "Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." ---C.S. Did you know flourine, the ionic form of fluoride is the second most toxic substance known to man? Ever heard of fluorine gas? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 191784100 years ago flouride was used as RAT POISON as well. Good post OP. Margarine is another example of a freak food that is commonly used which can and will kill you. Yet it is allowed on shelves by the FDA and other regulatory bodies. What does this tell you about them? There are many other freak foods like margarine that are to be avoided like the plague. Do some research on this short list of freak "foods" that are sold as "healthy alternatives": Canola oil (rapeseed), all Soy products, alfalfa sprouts, cashews. Avoid them at all costs if you want to stay healthy or get your health back. Also, stay away from allopathic doctors. |

Fortunately this was addressed in the complete article posted elsewhere. I quote: It is not true that margarine is "but ONE MOLECULE from being PLASTIC," and, even if it was, this doesn't mean that eating margarine is like eating plastic (though some would argue it tastes like it). Many items in nature are chemically similar to one another, but that doesn't make them similar in appearance or effect. It's not the molecules that a substance is made of that defines it, but rather how those molecules are arranged. I only use butter for the last 30+ years. Better taste and better for you. Why use a substitute when a substitute isn't even necessary? |

It's not the molecules that a substance is made of that defines it, but rather how those molecules are arranged. I'm glad someone brought this up. The simplistic scare tactics ("it's almost identical to plastic!") just muddle the understanding of the issue. (Not that I don't agree that butter is better than margarine). I also want to point out that sometimes it's the amount of a substance that determines if it is toxic or not. Selenium is an essential nutrient in small quantities, but you don't want to have too much. [link to ods.od.nih.gov] |
