WOW!

They just took the money!

The sudden closure of a payroll company has caused about $35 million worth of paychecks to vanish from the personal bank accounts of thousands of workers across the country.

The FBI is now investigating after MyPayrollHR, a payroll service provider based in Clifton Park, New York, shut down without warning last week.

The abrupt closure came soon after workers started reporting that their recent paychecks had been withdrawn from their accounts after they had already been paid.

Some workers had their original paycheck amount deducted up to three times, leaving them with negative bank account balances at the beginning of the month after rent payments had already been made.

Here's the thing. It's all on paper. Banks could correct this if they wanted. But they wont, they will charge overdrafts to innocent people and let the FBI sort it out. It's all *poof!*. Smoke and mirrors.

From the OP article. “Agape Animal Rescue says payroll deposits were made in employees' bank accounts in early September, but on September 5 they woke up to find money had been withdrawn.

Not only their pay checks but additional funds totaling more than $1 million was taken.

One employee reported seeing a negative bank balance of $999,000.”

That’s some serious mismanagement.

The businesses that use this payrollco. to pay the employees shouldn't they still be liable?
It's like if the payroll check bounced?

I don't see how they can just take money that doesn't belong to them. Something very wrong here.

Yes, I think according to labor law, the company is liable. That does not mean that they have the money to pay, but the fact that they used a payroll service to do it does not remove their liabilty.

Govt will force them to pay a fine to DOJ who will pay it out to lawyers and bank managers. Victims can sue in a class action and end up with 15 dollars each.
