Yes, they feed off our suffering as an energy source cuz for every cause there is an equal effect. So while we are suffering going through hell they are getting extreme pleasure/heaven from it   It was shown in clash of the titans how the lunar scum like vampires are feeding off our emotions/milking the cow while it sleeps. Similar feeding/milking was shown in robocop 2014 when he was sleeping. I suspect our ancient forms that sleep based on the experience we get while dreaming create/release potent substances the lunar scum harvest, get high on it etc.
