Just did a fresh install of Linux Mint
It's been on my to-do list for quite some time now. I still have Windows 7 on my main computer but wanted to check out Linux on my laptop.

So far, I'm really pleased with the look and feel. I'm amazed with how many apps are available and pre-installed. I didn't need to download any drivers. For example, I have a 6 year old Toshiba laptop and the USB 3.0 slot would never work under a Windows install. I would always have to go to the Toshiba site and download the driver. Not with Linux..it worked perfectly after the fresh install.

I'll keep poking around but this has some serious potential to be my main OS going forward. Installing updates now..there are quite a few of them.

I like Mint, it's pretty lean and standard, using the ubuntu deb package base for it's apt sources

Re: Just did a fresh install of Linux Mint
Install KVM / QEMU as well as the VM GUI manager. Then you can run windows as a virtual machine guest. I use VMware Workstation but whatever flips your page. If you do a lot of Linux distro hopping, a virtual machine is the way to efficiently do it.

One nice thing about KVM, the virtual machine runs very fast like it was installed "bare metal" as like a type 1 hypervisor rather than a type 2.

Running Windows 10 instance within a virtual machine on Linux is one of convenience, no dual boot, plus, you can control and lock down Windows. You can always take a snapshot of the Windows OS and time machine it back if Microsoft borks an update.

Re: Just did a fresh install of Linux Mint
If you are wanting to try out linux, you don't actually have to install it.
There's a list of bootable cdroms, of course it runs slower that way, but you can get the idea of which one you would want to install.
You can install/boot from a USB drive, from the livecd. Which runs way faster than a cdrom/DVD. Still not as fast as a HDD install. But you'll get to know how they work.
