There have been other scientific studies that show that immediately after hatching, the infant animal will pattern itself after the first animal it sees--and this is a good thing since in terms of survival it has its best chance at making it (in such a vulnerable age) if it "fits in." By the way, there's a scene with Jeff Goldbloom in Jurassic Park where a baby T-Rex hatches in the lab as their group observers...they discuss this similar "bonding" even in that film.
