That story makes my point. Jesus told the man to SELL his possessions and then GIVE to the poor.

You have to have something before you can give it away. When the man SOLD his possessions, he got lots of money. And with all that money, he was able to do good by giving it to the poor. But he had to have wealth FIRST.

In other words he was saying that being a follower of his doesn’t preclude you from your earthly/civic duties, like paying taxes. You still have to live in and abide by the rules of society.
