He was a Drama Teacher and even as recently as 20 years ago, ethnic makeups were a regualr part of any advanced curriculum. When I earned my Theater Arts degree back in the early 70's, ALL makeup classes taught ethnic types and how to duplicate them right along with vocal exercises that taught actors how to use dialects. I taught those same classes myself because it was STANDARD to do so when preparing young actors for a professional life.

BTW: It's TOUGH to pull off convincingly and requires hours of practice, practice, practice. In all makeup textbooks, over HALF of those chapters were devoted to this kind of work - but today, all of that has been erased due to "insensitivity" where none was ever intended in the first place.

I just turned 68 and am just waiting for my generation to start condemning young actors for playing "Old". But, at the same time I don't think it will ever happen... you see, we still have something called, "common-sense"

Of course, now I read that Trudeau was a Drama Teacher, which prepares you for being a good liar, and I guess dressing up as other ethnic groups was just part of that type of career. At least back then.

In case you've overlooked it, TIME maqazine first published that Trudeau pic. The same TIME magazine that darkened OJ Simpson's face on their cover to make him look more guilty than he obviously was.
