The economic reality for 70% of Americans
[link to www.zerohedge.com (secure)]

Just like in 2008, most Americans are living right on the edge financially, and so any sort of an economic downturn is going to be extremely painful for tens of millions of American families. When you have not built up a financial cushion, any sort of a setback can be absolutely disastrous. During the last recession, millions of Americans suddenly lost their jobs, and because most of them were living paycheck to paycheck a lot of them suddenly couldn’t pay their mortgages. In the end, millions of Americans lost their homes during the “subprime mortgage meltdown”, and today the housing bubble is even larger than it was back then. Sadly, the reality of the matter is that many of us are just barely scraping by from month to month, and that is a very dangerous position to be in.

Re: The economic reality for 70% of Americans
More than a decade into the longest economic expansion on record, almost two-fifths of people said in a new Bankrate poll that their main financial priority was just keeping their heads above water on living expenses rather than saving money.

Nearly as many of those surveyed said that they’re not following financial budgets, according to Bankrate’s September Financial Security Poll.

Yes student loans are at ridiculous levels. I can't count the number of stories of people who fell for them and then partied them away.

"because ;you know, getting the "college experience"

Sorry I had no "college Experience"
I went into the military, and 2-year technical college directly after h.s. graduation. I'm retired and comfortable at 59..

Re: The economic reality for 70% of Americans
The idea that people are going to grow their own food, and can and hunt and be self sufficient is fantasy land - I mean seriously I live in a neighborhood where everyone is on an acre and not a garden in sight.

Of all my friends and acquaintances across the board I know of and have known in my life very few people who have grown gardens, then if they have its mostly tomatoes and squash.

Seriously I have lived urban, rural - suburban life and I have known only a hand full of people who even supplement their diets with their gardens - and I am even talking about a few that are nearly off grid.

Old people - in my life the people who gardened were old people who remembered the depression -

I live in Florida now and you can't even grow a tomato without severe sun damage.
So now all this blabla I just shared above - do people honestly think there are those that will suddenly successfully grow gardens and can for the winter?

At best they will stockpile cans of food they purchased at Walmart.
Or have shitty horrible "food survival" food around.

Yeah, I know I am on a vent but people are so freaking delusional.
Not only do most Americans not have a safe back up plan, most of them are not emotionally equipt for hard times. Its gonna be a shit storm if SHTF.

Define "housing bubble". From 2000-2008, home prices in my area doubled. That was a fucking bubble.

The house I bought in 2010 has the same market value now as when I bought it. Where is the bubble? Prices have been stagnant in most areas.

NOPE. however, if corp employers are routinely not paying living wages for full time adult jobs, they are subverting the economy en masse, and that is exactly what is happening right now.

We have adults in this country that do not want to be adults. They want to be perpetual children.

If you are not raising your child in such a way that if you died tomorrow they could not make it in the world - you aren't doing your kid any favors.

My best friend in high school was such a person. Her parents spoiled her and I told them, they would be taking care of her forever if they didn't stop it.

Now, she is 52 years old and she still lives with her Mother. When her Mother passes, she will have to be put in a home.

If they can sell Mom's house and get enough money, which I doubt.

This girl had multiple abortions in her youth. Had she had any of those kids, she might have help now, but instead, their blood line ends and she dies alone.

Her father did taxes for Bill Clinton and they are big fans, so it may be just as well.

Sorry but that is simply not true.
I`m from abroad visiting Orlando-Fl with my family right now.
I only see people spending like crazy! The TV is only commercial al the time about BIGGER & Fancier cars. You see housewives using V6 pickups ... for what for???

The problem is not the income, but the spending like crazy in shit that simply is not needed. A lot of house, with new colorful halloween decoration with moving parts, etc.. How someone in recession spend like this?

the obvious solution is to give those tens of trillions of dollars the military spends, the hospitals get, and the wall street bailouts of QE money to the people who need it to keep their houses fer god sakes
