how do you know it is high?

Use salt substitute (potassium chloride) on foods. If you greatly decrease your sodium intake for 3 days, recheck your BP. May be normal by then. Alcohol can be very bad for BP unless you are able to keep it less than a couple of servings/day. Magnesium supplement can also help lower one's BP. Formal meditation will help you learn to actually lower your BP without meds.
