My area in the canyons above the LA basin are expected to get 35-45 winds tomorrow through Friday with gusts in the 70’s. We were informed yesterday that there could be outages in our area. It will impact me mainly because I have a salon and no electricity and that means 2 days no business. This wind is not unusual, the outages are of course. This is nefarious in my opinion. The electric companies that were sued for the paradise fire will only be sued more by more for this reaction. It makes no sense, unless you use your imagination. Bottom line... acceptance of control over our daily lives.

I’ve got camping gear so we’re good for light and, we can put the freezer food on ice(for a day)but I’m sure for some this will be a big problem.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 53652834

Yep, this makes no sense at all. 50 MPH winds are nothing for infrastructure. It happens to be the magical number for highrise construction. External man lifts, which are quite wobbly, must be shut down at that wind speed. No man lift, no work.

110 MPH wind speed is nothing to completed infrastructure--this is bullshit. If certain areas are vulnerable to falling trees or branches, then cut the mothers down.

So now if you want to live in a rural conservative area of California you won't have reliable electricity, you can't get fire insurance, gas is so expensive you can't commute.

Is this a plan to move everyone into the cities or possibly to force conservatives out of the state so the can have their liberal utopia, you know, so the whole state can be like the Gay Area.

Add to that all the city dwellers having their premiums and costs increased and being told it's because of the rural dwellers...that now they have to pay for the peace and safety of all those rural dwellers...the globalises will then have their footsdier army that demands rural dwellers move out of the area

From Linemen Rock FB page. (yeah, yeah FB, blah, blah))

Linemen Rock
18 hrs ·
CA is preparing for a major public safety power outage tomorrow. I can only imagine the meltdowns if it gets as bad as they are predicting.
What we understand is if they get the 50mph winds they believe is coming, every foot of line will have to be inspected before they restore power.
For the public: Linemen aren’t responsible for the outage. Likewise, you’ve been warned this would happen in order to attempt to prevent fires. If you aren’t prepared by now with generators and other measures to prevent your “oh my gawddd I had $6,837 worth of steak in that freezer” calls, I mean, come on. You’ve been told this would happen for over a year now. Remember that not a single one of the linemen out there are on the hook for your irresponsibility, the wind, the planned outages or your steak - so leave them alone. The longer you pester them the longer it takes for them to give the all clear.
In closing, as much as you now realize how lost you are without power, I hope you also realize how important linemen are to our way of life. Maybe show them the courtesy of getting out of the way while they work to get everything back online following this outage.

Wow, they really did it.

Hopefully all affected are educated, courteous, and think of others before themselves or this could have disastrous results.

Oh who am I kidding. I remain hopeful however.

When I looked at the outage map earlier, it show 10+ million tracked customers in CA, now its only showing 7+ million tracked customers. However, the totals as of 2:37 pm

Customers Tracked: 7,668,209

State Outage currently shows: 526,639

I wonder if the difference in the tracked customers are the included in the current total number of customers affected?

This is what the totals showed earlier, I took a screen shot 11:17am

Tracked: 10,437,079

State Outage currently shows: 526,802

Southern California Edison (near San Diego) was showing about 26,000 out a few minutes before (when the number was higher), but now they are only showing about 6,000 out. Could have been an auto accident that took out a feeder pole and since then they have been able to reroute most of the service area so only 6000 or so are out now.

Pay attention to the outages by company. That will give you a better idea as to what is going on from the Bay area and to the north.

SCE did earlier say that they also may have to cut service, they were saying maybe 110,000 or so, which would be affecting that area near San Diego but NOT the Bay area and north. That is another reason why it is worthwhile to pay attention what companies are cutting power and where.

[link to poweroutage.us (secure)]

So far no outages are showing on the map in the South Bay area, either east or south. Everything is North Bay and going north, though all appears to be good so far going up the delta along the river to Sacramento.

The rural dwellers pay a ton of taxex that sacramento diverts to the cities. They can't have it both ways,
drive out the rural dwellers (the sane people) and the taxes will go way up.
That is the gist behind seperating california into two states, northern california pays way more taxes than they get back in services, southern california pays way less tax than they get back in services.

Northern california would like nothing better than to sever ties with southern california.
