That being said...this in no way makes the pullout in Syria a good idea.
The fact of the matter is that although a horrible decision...WE DID fabricate all of our wars for the last 30 years in the Middle East. There is no pretending it DIDN’T happen.
...and throwing our ONLY reliable military, intelligence, and strategic partner in the region for the last three decades only tells the rest of the world to never, ever, trust the United States.
What happens next time if we have a REAL war that ISN’T fabricated against a REAL opponent when we throw our most loyal allies to the wolves and tell them best wishes during your upcoming genocide?
Let’s say we had to confront China militarily someday...if you were the Philippines would YOU continue to host US military bases? Or would you resist knowing full well as soon as the dust settles, you’ll be abandoned to Chinese torture camps?
The cost of having such a tiny 1,000 man presence in the region is no way comparable to our full scale invasions in Iraq and Afghanistan.
If we are going to pull out...then we ought to bring all 2 million Kurds right here to the States and give them full citizenship, including VA benefits for fighting OUR wars for us, just like any US serviceman.
50 troops he pulled out 50 troops!!! Trust! The rest of the world listened to Schifty's speech! That sure ain't going to help with Trust issues. And the President being forced to reveal a phone call with another leader to clear his name , that's sure going to have more of an effect than just recalling 50 troops.
