Fuck...I can just imagine...

50 or so wrinkled old bats spending their days nattering away wading through three feet of catshit just to get to the kitchen.

Re: Communes for retired women? Is there anyplace in the US for older women who want to live together?
At age 59, I've been through enough to know that I don't want to live alone. I was living with my brother for a time, but he's now getting married, so I gots to go. Prior to that, I lived in a beautiful house with my husband, but he died, and it's been a rough few years.

I've looked at retirement communities but so many of those have houses that start at $300,000 with 2,000+ square feet. I'm looking for something that's affordable and manageable.

I'd love to live in a commune-like environment, where we each have our own private living space, but come together for meals and maybe watching television or having parties.

Is there anything like that in the United States?

Thanks in advance.

59 isn't "old" to me. You need to find a nice old guy, like myself, to share with. Two can live as cheaply as one, except for insurance. I'll never go to a nursing home and my take on the whole thing is to shelter in place.
 Quoting: Pilgrim001

Hey Pilgrim001,

I'd love to do that, but despite being on match dot com for two months, nothing has happened. And I mean NOTHING. I have a lovely shape, an average face and a lot of intellectual prowess and some fancy accomplishments!

I just need to find me a sapiosexual! :D
 Quoting: Hope_Full

Interestingly enough, That would be what I would prefer, if she leaned conservative, but then an intelligent person probably would lean conservative.
Go to plentyoffish....com and look up Petitroche in Sherwood AR.
 Quoting: Pilgrim001

IF she leaned conservative...

Well, SHE is ME! And as a small business owner, I am quite conservative.

I'm not on plentyoffish. Isn't that mostly "hookups?"

There must be an easier way to connect.

Buy a model trailer for about 15,000 in Yuma Ariz where you will find thousands of women with similar stories like yours. It's the last cheap place left in the USA.

Yep, Mesa AZ as well. These are inexpensive alternatives for the retired and many are super clean and nice.

It sounds like hell. These days it would probably be lesbian predators trying to turn all the lonely women. Unless you have biological sisters to live with.

Probably the convents too.

What a screwed up world.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78081471

Don't get women confused with men. Older women, as a rule, though there be exceptions to any rule, do not behave as 'dirty old men' do! You may be a perv yourself, but you don't need to always take others at your own evaluation.:)

What happened with Susana Martinez? Did she serve out her term(s) or was she beaten in a race?

I remember a speech of hers a long time ago at a Republican convention. She was impressive.

Whispering Leaves - pls check your inbox.
 Quoting: Avenger1

What about my inbox? There's nothing there that I can see.

Understanding what motivates a person, even somebody in politics, requires understanding their roots. Martinez is DACA 'dreamer' stock, illegal grandparents, an Affirmative Action law graduate, from El Paso, Texas - not New Mexico. She has no family history or ties to this state and would often make her legislative decisions with no care for how the people of New Mexico, the American people here, would be affected by them. Her true loyalties are going to be to Mexico and Mexicans, not to us.

Nothing against her for that plain fact, it just is. We are all no more and no less than what we come from. Many Americans today might think 'blood doesn't matter,' 'race doesn't matter' or 'family doesn't matter' but no Mexican would be that stupid! To them, and to most of the rest of the world, those are the only things that matter. You need to watch what she does, and did, not what she says.

Tons of 55+ communities on Florida -
And surely in Arizona and Nevada

Some are doublewide neighborhoods - you can buy a new or used double wide on an acre for slightly over $100,000 one of my clients told me

All depends on the size of house and yard you want - but it’s AFFORDABLE!

Most of these communities organize events for holidays - Memorial and Labor Day and Fourth of July parties at a clubhouse -
Choose to mingle or bring your own friends

That link wouldn't even let me scroll to read the article..about a queer bikers club. They wanted money to read their site! But why not a queer bikers club, so long as they don't bother any of the rest of us? There's about every other kind of club now. I did Toys for Tots runs myself, 'poker runs' where you get a card in every tavern you stop at.:) I don't remember there ever being a discussion on who might have been queer or not but that was 20 years ago, before 'who are you shagging' was the only thing on people's minds.

Yes, they are called Senior Living Apartments. They cater to the 55+ crowd. Many are affordable living and are within a community area. They would have a club house and lots of amenities...

I'm in Oklahoma and at retirement, I may want to move into one of these...

These go for $430 per month...

[link to www.rentalhousingdeals.com]

This unit has 3 bedroom/ 2 bath for $640 per month. The 2 bedroom units and 1 bedroom units are less expensive...

There are more in Oklahoma City and range from $600 - $900 per month...

Or dogs? That depends upon where they are: in town or not, city or county, which state, which neighbors, communal, apartment or private house living.

Seniors on fixed incomes have to be careful about how many animals they keep, for they have to make provisions for their care with other people in emergency, especially if they have medical issues. Get them fixed whilst you're still out and about! There are a few foundations that help with the cost: NM is extremely expensive for veterinary care so a list of names of those who work with charities and/or will give you a discount is a precious resource.

Thanks for your reply. Yeah, I don't need an entire house, or if I have an entire house, it can be under 500 square feet.

I was just thinking it'd be delightful to have a commune, where retirees come together for potluck dinners and/or breakfast, and yet have their own little house for sleeping and/or quiet time and/or watching television, enabling them to have as much (or as little) together time as they want!

Commune is a less popular word in the US that implies "cult" to everybody or hippie hellhole where everybody has to come to breakfast so the lead hippie can preach and make sure all are doing chores assigned. Nobody US likes that one.

You want independent social living and that IS what people want. Exactly what you do. They call it by any name here but the C word and you won't get anywhere with it.

But if you are in the US just start a house? Show a 501c3 and they may let you charter it as long as its legit? You can do it all yourself too, depending on how good you are with the document perfection and filing thing.
You get started with a house or building and a "for rent/conditional, pet friendly" and best wishes to you.
Nobody here can think of where they'd rather live or how on their money and we put few expectations on each other. (Its not home if you have to live on egg shells) mostly GLAD of what each other does.

*disclaimer....ours is our church's and that is so VASTLY different than secular nfps. After all these years, i dont know how I would meet the hassle secular living and any kind of corporate business is, as it has become in some places.
Its all roses if a bit humble because we all made it and everybody cares about everybody as well as ignores little petty stuff that does not even really matter.

All or nothing. Dependent on the nature and personality of the place.
Some places are more solemn and austere, some are more family style and laid back. You have to look for an order that matches you most because you aren't in it to match an order, so to speak.
Pretty sure most still ask the 2 questions of the ages. If the answer to seeking sanctuary for gospel life and study is no, the second question is "what do you want of us?" You can be ready for those.

There’s a directory: ic.org, that is a directory for intentional communities. We have a nearby eco village that is not exclusively women, but folks who live in the buildings that were purchased by the eco village pay much less in rent than standard, market rate units, and the members get together for Sunday potluck. They have residents who grow food, and there is a bicycle loan/repair shop on premises.

Humane society las cruces (dona ana?) Helps with vet bills by income for old people and veterans etc - funds get released first of the month call them and they call you back.

Also, go to Private Vet Offices. The hospital, emergency and group places here are corporate, exploitative and not very good? Like they just take peoples money and let their animal go or speed it along. Stick to the private drs in practice.

Make sure and tell pharmacists your rx is for an animal too. Walgreens cut half off a lasix rx we got for kola there.
We will be supplying a label coming out here that has pet health foods and we have them for income challenged.....when we have the money
