But such is life in the Golden State I guess they should have bought solar panels or a generator. Especially, since CA is known to have outages frequently. My brother in-law has solar panels on his house in Stockton which are connected to the grid but if the power fails there is no power to the house from the panels. Too bad, so sad. LOL. |

Unlike regular cars, which run on gasoline and make all the polar bears cry as they sink into the sea, electric cars are powered by... um... magic? Mjölnir, the hammer of Thor? That must be how it works, or else owning an electric car would impose some sort of cost to the environment. And that can't be, or those guys wouldn't be so insufferably smug. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77231984 You know those intentional blackouts they're having in California to reduce the risk of wildfires? Well, guess what happens now? [link to pjmedia.com (secure)] Turn of power to prevent fires... forget what we used to light homes before electricity....hint:fire. Over 18,000 homes burn annually from candles. 1,500 homes burned in the California wildfires. But ya let them turn off your power! When your shits on fire hopefully your phone is charged to be able to call the fire department. Califucking Stupid! |

When your shits on fire hopefully your phone is charged to be able to call the fire department. Califucking Stupid! You misunderstood. The purpose of the blackout is not to prevent fires. The purpose is to absolve the electic company for fiscal responsibility for fires. If you are negligent, light a candle and it gets out of hand and burns down a town... YOU are on the hook for it, not PG&E. The electric company got sued, plaintiffs alleged faulty grid started the fire, cost them millions. PG&E, seeing how that game is played, elects to turn off power rather than fix their antiquated and overloaded equipment. There's no law saying they can't. I have a feeling there's going to be an upswell of angry customers. Laws will get changed, power will flow, consumers and taxpayers as usual will be the ones taking it in the shorts. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 40169223 Usually nice weather in Cali year round, get out and bicycle! can you take the patients to their dialysis session with yours? I hate to say it, but if someone needs a hospital to survive, the responsible thing is to live within walking distance of one. There will always be failures in infrastructure and transportation. Why end your life for a simple earthquake, storm, or bizarre new California law? I don't know what lies they told you, but I can promise they were lies. There's a fine line between training, trauma, and torture. |
