The law in Texas is very specific regrading deadly force, and in this case all of the parameters were met.imo this woman's only chance of surviving would be drawing first and shooting the office dead, and that's what would have made it a lawful self defense shooting on the womans part. no citizen has any moral duty to assume a uniformed officer is abiding in the law, or intends to, and that is what a jury will see

Wow. There's a crapload of cop-haters spouting off in this thread. And like I've said before: nobody hates overzealous cops more than me (many are lying perjurous pricks, dealt with some in traffic court). Undoubtedly we have bad ones & their lies put innocent people in prison or coffins.

But the video shows a tragedy in action, not pre-meditated or even intentional murder. It's manslaughter (accidental). The officer goes into this on a "wellness check." Her neighbor may have had some good reason to fear for her safety - details are sketchy - but jumping to the conclusion he was up to no good is stupid. She was playing video games with a younger relative; maybe she was screaming with excitement & the neighbor thought they heard crys for help. Seems likely but just a guess. The cop went into this probably thinking he was going to potentially save a life. I think it was a mistake to not knock or call out, but maybe he was just doing exactly what he was trained to do.

LEOs used to get rapid reaction training with firearms to try & prevent split-second mishaps like this (video scenarios & mock-pistols that test their response in stressful scenarios). Guessing this guy never had that kind of training, & his employer is hanging him out to dry. If it's a democrat city, you already know there'd be no money in the budget for said training. The fact that his own department shitcans him & charged him with murder (& not manslaughter) tells me he's going to not get a fair hearing. This cop is going to get hit hard by the press & the idiots who want blood (like we see in this thread). He got a call to so a two am wellness check. He’s the police! Theybdont really have psychic detectives to tell him that this one is just a forgetful little old lady who took a Benadryl and not a hostage situation or an ambush.
