It has been found to be contaminated over and over, usually at higher levels than this. Don't use talc products, especially ones from China. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 73187561 United States 10/18/2019 02:25 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | US drug company Johnson & Johnson said on Friday it would recall a single lot of its Baby Powder in the US after the Food and Drug Administration found trace amounts of asbestos in samples taken from a bottle purchased online. Quoting: keybored According to the firm, the recall is limited to one lot of its Baby Powder produced and shipped in the US last year. The watchdog’s test indicated the presence of no greater than 0.00002 percent of chrysotile asbestos in the tested sample. Asbestos is a term for a group of minerals often found in talc, which is widely used in cosmetics. Exposure to it may increase risks of a number of diseases such as lung cancer and mesothelioma. All talcum powder is somewhat radioactive. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 75440185 Look it up. minute amounts of radioactivity isnt what you need to be concerned about, talc itself looks like a bunch of broken glass under a microscope, definitely not something you want to ingest. |

True, and asbestos looks very similar. A lot of people think asbestos is a toxin or something like that. But really it's natural fibers. What makes asbestos so hazardous is that instead of breaking cleanly like fiberglass or talc fibers, it breaks into long splinters. Splinters that get lodged in the body, and the body can't expel them. |

nitebird User ID: 76362614 United States 10/18/2019 07:12 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I don't know anyone who still uses this on babies, but a lot of old ladies like to put it in their shoes. There was a lawsuit a while back because women had been putting baby powder on their tampons and ended up with cervical cancer. Corn starch is better if you need powder and babies don't need powder. Most of the old products marketed for babies are terrible anyway. Scented lotions and strong soaps with harsh chemicals should be nowhere near sensitive skin. Ask a nurse what really works because some of the pediatricians are just peddling products. |

I suppose that used to be a popular practice. They were getting cervical cancer and sued. I don't remember the settlement but the whole thing was a big deal for a while. People were encouraged to switch to corn starch at the time. |
