Drones have Cameras on them and all the recordings are saved.

So sure if you wanna be seen like a lunatic shooting a shotgun in the air at the 'spy drone'

You do you buddy.

I want to see you admit in court with your video evidence that you are using them for what you are. I will shoot every single one I see down.

Ohh please you believe the story that a drone is peeping though windows at wife and daughter?

That is just nonsense in the minds of people with Ego. They think the drone flying nearby is trying to film them.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 75953087

I was driving down the road the other day and saw a

remote operated Highway cam turned around 180 degrees

and pointed strait into somebodies bedroom window.

It happens

I think some people are using them to case more rural estates. They are trying to get the lay of the land and are trying to figure out how many people are in the house, the security systems, etc.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77837750

You can use a drone to also find something that has been stolen from you:

You could make a pneumatic PVC hand-cannon. Fire projectiles like 100s of small plastic balls, or perhaps a net-like material to snag it, or something viscous & sticky. I imagine there'd be "how to" vids on such a thing out there. It would be more like a hobbyist plaything than a weapon.

I'd take that thing down if someone was spying on the women in my life. First file a police report. Get it on record 1st. That way they can trace down the owner & bring charges against them (maybe).

Wanna use the "you don't own the airspace" argument? Fine.

FAR 91.119
(c) Over other than congested areas – An altitude of 500 feet above the surface except over open water or sparsely populated areas. In that case, the aircraft may not be operated closer than 500 feet to any person, vessel, vehicle, or structure.

Class G airspace comes to the surface everywhere unless you're really close to an airport. Basically unregulated: G for "government free."

Still gotta follow altitude minimums even if you're a drone. And don't try to use the helicopter exception, b/c go ahead call your local fsdo and ask them if you're allowed to operate your drone close to your neighbor's house.

Flying within 500ft of a house is a crime. If they wanted to throw the book at you, you could be fined 50k.

P.S they won't tho

If someone was physically standing on your property, peering in your windows, you sure as heck can detain them.

And not everyone lives in the suburbs. Where I am, hunting on private property is the norm. For this reason, sending a drone to scope out someone's house is all the more suspect.

There isn't a single cop in this town who would arrest anyone for shooting down a trespassing drone.

Sling shot and shoot ice cubes at it. Don't use a firearm.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 4540273

Firearms are easier and faster.
Coworker is outside of city limits, where it's legal to discharge them. Obviously he is a legal firearm owner too. (against a drone is the question)
 Quoting: Sikhed

Then you need to find out what the legal air space is for drones or how far up the private property rights extend in the air above. If the drone is in legal air space, it's a crime to attack it. If the property includes the air space around the windows, then it's illegal for the drone to be there.

Technically the property rights dont extend into the airspace.

From the ground level to about 500 meters is going to be sectioned off specifically for drone use. Like amazon delivery ect. Maybe in the future even human transport.

OP here:
Well I guess we'll find out the legalities soon enough.
My coworker that's being bothered by this voyeuristic drone is going to blast it next time it shows up.
He said his neighbors (at least one of them) are going to do the same thing.

If this actually happens, I'll re-open this post with the details.

Supreme Court decision in 1946 ruled that a North Carolina farmer could assert property rights up to 83 feet in the air.

PA just enacted a law H.B 1346, Act 78 of 2018, specifically addressing the issue of spying drones.

Mississippi SB2022 makes peeping with a drone a felony.

Recordings can be saved locally and non locally.

So film the drone with a phone of it flying near the house / window. If its true thats its doing this it should be easy enough to film it to get proof.

Nobody is just gonna believe the story that a drone is spying in windows.
