If you have some old phones you can use Alfred camera app. Good god the mics on phones are super, I can hear the cats and critters walking on the porch through the closed window. Its free with prem options.

I only use Verint dvr's and software. I ran their manufacturing plant for five years and can vouch for their awesomeness. Mind you we are talking government/commercial surveillance equipment unaffordable unless you are a bank, walmart /big box store, a casino or government controlled airport/ port of entry. I got mine from refurbished rma's so you're probably out of luck. My advice after evaluating Chinese dvr boards for the average Pc- Don't bother as they are pieces of crap. I'd recommend getting a ring 2.0 for every day use.

Axis is what all the federal buildings and hospitals use. Dahua and hikvision have all been banned as the chinese have back doored all them.

I'd like security cameras that are inconspicuous for the outdoors, durable and weather resistant, and hd.

I've tried all of the cheap ones and none of them really worked.

I bought a ring floodlight camera and it has been awesome. Always works and syncs to my cellphone easily. I liked it so much I bought their security system as well.

Hospitals maybe but not federal institutions as Verint owns that market completely. DOD, treasury and even the Smithsonian and archives are Verint customers.
