It looks like bamboo, however is not so strong and easy to break. Its roots travel 12+ feet underground and can live there even if the surface plant is removed. It will drive people that want it removed crazy:). You have to burn it to destroy it otherwise it will grow wherever you discard cut pieces....

FUCK THAT SHIT!!! It's an invasive species that is spreading like wildfire all over the northeast.

Once a root system takes hold, it's almost impossible to get rid of.

If you see even one leaf of that shit growing in your yard or anywhere else, EXTERMINATE WITH EXTREME PREJUDICE!!!

so get some plant it in a large controlled container, grow t harvest it use it ... not so hard.

Great idea. I have giant blue containers that would work perfectly.

I have Japanese knotweed all over my yard.

The stuff is impossible to eradicate.

So I just don't let it flower or proliferate toooo much.

Heard all parts are edible.

Same for burdock another common weed. Whole plant and roots can be eaten

You can pull up the stalks and let them dry out in the sun. Once they're totally dehydrated they cannot grow more and you can compost them. Then pour a big pot of boiling water over the root area.

I tried Roundup in one spot - doesn't work any better than boiling water does so may as well not use poisons. I heard vinegar and water is effective too.
