I work next too, and across the street from two buildings that the cult used to own. I remember reading an interesting article with the original founder I think it was a Washington Post one.

From what I read the founder of it didn't set it up like your typical cult
it was setup like an intelligence gathering organization.
He would recruit people to go work specific jobs that he told them to, and then asked them to tell them as much information about it as possible.
