Duracell Batteries now LEAK like a Sieve
I always paid the extra money to buy Duracell batteries because you could put them in a device and they would NEVER LEAK unlike the cheaper alkelines.

NOW everything I have Duracells in has a leaky battery and all sorts of that corrosion that occurs when a battery leaks. Duracells are now actually WORSE than the cheapest of the cheapies when it come to LEAK ISSUES.

Forget their "use by" date ... they will now start leading just a couple of years into being placed into a device, many many years before that "use by" date printed on the battery.

I have no idea where they are made anymore ... but it definitely is NOT at the plant(s) that used to make them with the same quality materials that they used to be made with.

Whatever you do ... do NOT leave any duracell batteries inside any occasional use device such as flashlights or radios for emergency use. When you go to use them in the next power failure in a year or so you will find that they do NOT work ... AND they have leaked their chemicals all over the insides of your device.

Re: Duracell Batteries now LEAK like a Sieve
old topic -- but had an experience yesterday with this. Found an old radio , 4 AA alkaline batteries in it, left in the radio maybe at least 10 years, probably more

all leaking except one :

a Fuji brand AA alkaline battery, with an expiration date of 02/2005 . Not leaking, and the battery tester showed it still has a full charge.

It came with my first digital camera I ever bought in 2000 . I set those batteries aside, choosing to use NImh rechargeables instead

so 17 years past the expiration date, and 22 years since purchased -- and still fine (though I won't put it anything valuable, if at all)

don't buy Duracells ...

Re: Duracell Batteries now LEAK like a Sieve
A Duracell D cell has 10 amp hours. An energizer D cell has 18.5, and it will never leak. people were stupid about the copper top, not realizing that all along Duracell was telling people in plain sight that they could not get the copper out of their raw materials, thus leading to a vastly inferior product due to a problem that Eveready solved.

Solution: buy energizer.

"Eneloop" brand NiMh rechargables are made in Japan like your Fuji's are. They never leak too.

I use low self discharge, rechargeable batteries.

They pay for themselves after about the 5th charge and can be recharged 1000 times.

They don't leak either because their construction is different to alkaline batteries.
