This is Wikipedia's definition of "blood Sport"

"A blood sport is a category of sport or entertainment that involves bloodshed.[1] Common examples of the former include combat sports such as cockfighting and dog fighting and some forms of hunting and fishing. Activities characterized as blood sports, but involving only human participants, include the Ancient Roman gladiatorial games." Wikipedia

Do you think animals should be forced to participate in "blood sports' without their consent then sent to slaughter after?

Or is this out of touch with our humanity at this phase in our evolution?

Speak up...

Over use of the Horses,.. is the biggest problem of Horse Racing.

The institution has to rethink how it will approach horse racing and PETA should
be involved.

I do not think the institution of horse racing or PETA care AT ALL about animals.

Horse racing needs to just end. Nobody that loves animals will touch horse racing at this point. The backlash is heinous and everyone knows it, but that is what is needed in horse racing to protect the horses.

Those in horse racing think having federal government regulating everything will fix things, that is what PETA is voting for and many horseman.

Has anyone been to the DMV?

It cannot be fixed if that is their best solution.

I have better ones, but i'd rather end it, after seeing the heartless cruel monsters in the sport and they threaten anyone trying to do right by the horses so f all of them, let their incomes die of natural causes they deserve it...for real. XOXO

I'm still amazed that they can't fix a horse's broken leg. Horse goes down, breaks one of those very thin thoroughbred legs, and they shoot it dead.

Why can't they drug it up, put it in a coma, do the surgery to fix the leg, then when it heals, wake the horse up and at least use it for stud? Some of these horses are worth millions, far more than the cost of doing all that.

What people are willing to do for profit (collect the insurance money) is very different then what people will do for love...(adopt the injured animal, rehab it, and retire it to pasture at a minimum cost of thousands for the vet bills, and over $350 a month for care of it for the next 30 years.)

Most owners own over 50 horses at once, so 50 x $350 a month for the next 30 years to comfortably retire a racehorse that may or may not have made you a lot of money is too much to ask of them, so they sell it instead to slaughter. They get a few hundred dollars maybe, but they no longer have to pay vet bills.

When they put it down on the track like that I guarantee you they collect a fat insurance check.

Versus retiring it would cost a small fortune.

If you loved the horse it would make sense to retire it.

"Strollin Willie" was a horse that had a broken cannon bone then was raced like that with a broken cannon bone, and then was rescued by Soul Horse Texas from a kill pen where he was left with a broken cannon bone to board a long hot ride to Mexico and to be brutally slaughtered like the rest of the horses in the ABC special on horse slaughter that aired last week.

Here is "Strollin Willie" after he was rescued by Soul Horse (still with a broken cannon bone), his prognosis was grim, but look he looks happy he doesn't look like he is "suffering" and in the same agony the horse racing community makes you think it is so they do not feel guilty colleting that fat insurance check.

That is with just standard care donated by poor people. Imagine if horse racing had pools, and physical therapy and mandatory rehab and rehoming for ALL of it's athletes? With the 7 billion in tax payer dollars horse racing gets this should already be a given. Yet we know it is not, the horses get killed instead of rehabbed...they end up in kill pens instead of green pastures...

Exactly...how hard can it be to make a horsey wheel chair either until it heals...like a horse with training wheels or a doggy wheel chair for a horse. Then use aqua therapy to help rebuild the leg and muscles. Not rocket science. Just nobody cares.

A racehorse with a broken leg is worthless at stud. There may be other alternatives, but it probably involves rescue type activities.

WARNING WARNING WARNING

Hard to look at.

This was the 37th horse death at Santa Anita in less than a year.

That's almost one per week, and those are only the ones that are reported.

Within 2 years,CA will outlaw horse racing and NY will soon follow.

Within 10 years horse racing will be almost non-existent in the USA.

You are a fucking retard, OP.

You have no idea how much horse owners love and care for
their horses, including race horse owners.

Stop spouting libtard shit.

You know nothing about horse stewardship.

If you have ever owned a horse, I pity the horse.

Stupid, stupid horseshit from you.

Horse racing has its share of dodgy bastards but no more than other industries

These horses are bred to race, ban racing and they cease to exist

OP calling for the extinction of thoroughbreds?

What about standardbred racing, do you want them removed from Earth too?

Oh yeah now I remember, from what I heard after one of the Triple Crowns. They're pre-sold for stud. That's probably also paid off by insurance. So the owner lacks incentive to keep the horse for stud, even a champion horse.

So the horse won the Triple Crown, but the owner didn't benefit that much financially. The members of the partnership that had bought the stud rights benefited the most, because now they could charge more for the champion's services.

Why don't the insurance companies write the contracts so there's less incentive to put them down? The benefit to the owner is that that policy would cost less.

When they put them down, just turn them into fine steaks. Tasty eating really. And the rest just turn into ground horse, never had it but I would eat it. And as long as they were not overly drugged with something, their offal would be worth a lot of money. Imagine a high end liver from one of those horses!
