Emperor Constantine issued the Edict of Milan in 313 proclaiming toleration for the Christian religion, and convoked the First Council of Nicaea in 325 whose Nicene Creed included belief in "one holy catholic and apostolic Church". Through such "Edicts" Rome mixed pagan statues, beliefs etc...into the "church", turning the apostolic churches into a hiararchy / tradition-laden religion, just like Judaism had become.

The congregation set up by Paul in Rome became a church with a bishop, just like dozens of others around the Mediterranean.

And ALL so-called early "popes" were basically nothing more than bishops, with no true authority over Christendom.

Only through subsequent Edicts did the church in Rome start claiming authority over the next several centuries.

The word "catholic" was a generic term used to describe the churches that had been founded by the Apostles.

Abraham, Moses and Gideon ALL KNEW the Father's name.

Yeah, I've never thought of it as derogatory. I don't use the term to describe myself much, though, since it's only real function within Christianity is to differentiate oneself from Roman Catholicism, and is always followed up with, "What denomination?" I typically prefer just "Christian," or "Baptist" if I'm discussing doctrinal issues, but for the purposes of this conversation, "Protestant" fit.

Someone going to daily mass will eventually hear around 80% of the bible. Liturgy of the hours also includes both old and new testament content. But Catholics also read the bible as much as anyone other person with such an interest or devotion. Most churches have bible study groups.

Hell is not a place yet, but you still have time to repent and come back to Jesus.

One verse? There is a reading from the Old Testament, New Testament, and Gospel at every mass (almost the entire Bible covered in 3 year cycles at every Church worldwide) and the mass is full of direct quotes from Scripture.

The RCC truly didn't start grasping hold of the Catholic Empire until 445, when the emperor Valentinian III decreed that all western bishops must obey the pope.

Notice that BOTH Theodosius AND Valentinian III were EMPERORS....NOT popes. Rome merely "back-dated" their line of popes, all the way to Peter.

Finally, it's ironic that prior to Constantine's Edict of making Christianity "legal", Roman authorities spent the previous 290 years persecuting Christians.

Then, in 385 CE the first Christians beheaded for heresy were in Trier/Germany the Spanish Priscillianus and six followers.

This began a centuries-long assualt on both pagans AND non-Catholics that lasted up until the 1700's.

The manuscripts used to create the Bible existed 200+ years BEFORE Constantine legalized Christianity.

Roman leaders had NO control etc...of the network of Christian churches that had been in existence since the apostles had begun establishing them after Christ's ascension.

Rome merely assimilated them, beginning with the Council of Nicea.

The church is only made of the human building blocks. All humans are sinners. The pope is only the bishop of Rome. The Roman Catholic Church is the largest denomination in the world. As such, it is a target for Satan who hates it. It is also filled with some who are evil. Just as the best country on Earth, the United States, will always have criminals within it, so too will the Catholic Church have bad people within it.

Seems a bit strange that this "christian" goes after the subject of purgatory right away. The realms outside of Heaven are a great mystery. Not all outside of Heaven is Hell, and not all outside of Hell is Heaven.

Catholics are the one true faith, we never changed. Jorge Bergoglio, pretending to be a Pope, is trying though. He will fail.

How about the trinity? It's not Biblical unless you use the verses that were added / altered deliberately by scribes to promote the doctrine.

The Lord's Prayer is to Father God alone - not the trinity. Jesus NEVER said to pray to Himself nor the Holy Spirit.
